.As I moved through the year of the MA at Winchester School of Art I became increasingly aware of the insistent voices of my ancestors who had lived and worked the fields nearby over the last century. They were poor but survived and told rollicking tales and I am made of these as much as I am made of blood and bone so this painting, which began as a memory of a shattering event, a whimpering chair, became instead an empowerment for me and a grateful acknowledgement of them.
